Overview

Responsible for building and leading the AI Strategy and Innovation department within the MasTec Clean Energy and Infrastructure (CE&I) organization focused on transforming how the organization operates, delivers projects, and creates value through artificial intelligence. This position will serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, define CE&I’s AI vision, identify strategic opportunities across the business, and lead a team responsible for developing and implementing AI-enabled solutions that result in measurable operational outcomes and ROI. The Director will possess a unique blend of executive leadership, operational understanding, and technical expertise, enabling them to connect business challenges with innovative technologies and drive enterprise-wide adoption of AI capabilities.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:


• Develop and execute a multi-year enterprise AI strategy aligned with corporate objectives
• Identify opportunities where AI can improve business performance, project execution, safety, quality, estimating, scheduling, procurement, equipment utilization, risk management, and back-office operations
• Establish a prioritized AI innovation portfolio and roadmap
• Evaluate emerging technologies, vendors, platforms, and market trends
• Serve as the primary advisor to executive leadership on AI opportunities, risks, investments, and organizational readiness
• Translate business challenges into practical AI initiatives with measurable outcomes
• Present business cases, investment proposals, and program results to executive stakeholders
• Develop governance processes ensuring AI initiatives align with enterprise priorities
• Partner directly with field operations, project teams, estimating, safety, engineering, finance, procurement, and corporate functions
• Spend significant time understanding real-world workflows, pain points, and operational challenges
• Build strong relationships across all business units to ensure AI solutions solve actual business problems rather than technology problems
• Lead the design, development, and deployment of AI-enabled applications, automations, agents, and analytics solutions
• Collaborate with application development, infrastructure, security, and data teams to deliver scalable solutions
• Establish development standards, architecture patterns, and solution governance
• Ensure successful adoption and business value realization
• Partner with Information Security, Legal, Compliance, and Data Governance teams
• Establish responsible AI practices, policies, and oversight
• Evaluate risks associated with data privacy, intellectual property, regulatory requirements, model management, and AI-generated outputs
• Ensure enterprise AI solutions operate within approved governance frameworks
• Build and lead a high-performing AI Innovation team
• Recruit, mentor, and develop AI engineers, solution developers, and technical specialists
• Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, business partnership, and continuous learning
• Establish delivery metrics, performance expectations, and career development plans

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

 

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or related field
• Master's degree in Business, Technology, Data Science, Engineering, or related field preferred
• 12+ years of progressive technology, innovation, digital transformation, or business systems leadership experience
• Five+ years leading enterprise technology or innovation teams
• Demonstrated success delivering AI, automation, advanced analytics, or digital transformation initiatives though the full lifecycle, including pilot, measure, iterate, and adoption at enterprise scale
• Experience building AI programs from inception preferred
• Experience solving complex operational challenges with scalable technology solutions in construction, engineering, energy, utility, industrial services, infrastructure, or large project-based enterprises
• Experience within a construction or engineering organization exceeding $1B in annual revenue preferred
• Experience managing both strategic initiatives and technical delivery teams preferred

• Ability to lead organizational transformation initiatives
• Exceptional executive communication and influence skills

• Understanding of field operations, project controls, estimating, safety programs, capital projects, workforce productivity challenges
• Strong executive presence and presentation skills, successfully engaging leaders and driving consensus around proposed solutions
• Technical Expertise in the following areas:
• Generative AI solutions
• Large Language Models (LLMs)
• Microsoft Copilot ecosystem
• AI agents and workflow automation
• Data platforms and analytics
• Cloud architecture
• Enterprise application integration
