Saiia Construction Company LLC, a MasTec company, is currently hiring for a Project Engineer.

The Project Engineer supports the planning, execution, quality assurance, documentation, and closeout of heavy civil construction projects. This field-focused role coordinates closely with project management, site supervision, customers, subcontractors, vendors, and third-party testing firms to help ensure work is completed in accordance with project drawings, specifications, quality requirements, schedule, and budget. The position performs and coordinates soil sampling and related field testing activities; maintains clear customer communication; supports quality assurance across all assigned projects; and spends the majority of working time in the field rather than in a traditional office setting.

• Support the project team from preconstruction planning through project completion and closeout.
• Interpret plans, drawings, specifications, and submittals for site leadership; coordinate with the Project Manager to resolve conflicts, interferences, omissions, and field questions. 
• Perform drafting, digitizing, mapping, graphical presentations, quantity takeoffs, and drawing revisions using AutoCAD Civil 3D or equivalent CAD/modeling software. 
• Provide field engineering support including survey verification, grading checks, material installation validation, and as-built documentation. 
• Perform or coordinate soil sampling, compaction testing, and other required field sampling activities in accordance with project specifications, approved procedures, and applicable standards; maintain accurate chain-of-custody and test documentation. 
• Review test reports from third-party testing firms to identify errors and trends requiring corrective action or escalation. 
• Conduct daily field inspections and quality observations to verify completed work complies with applicable codes, drawings, specifications, approved submittals, and the site quality program. 
• Support quality assurance and control by maintaining inspection records, quality logs, calibration records, and corrective-action documentation. 
• Communicate regularly with customers, Project Managers, site leadership, subcontractors, and vendors regarding project status, testing results, quality concerns, technical requirements, schedule impacts, and issue resolution. 
• Professionally respond to customer questions and assist project leadership in resolving customer complaints or concerns related to quality, documentation, or field execution. 
• Monitor subcontractor and vendor performance for timeliness, efficiency, specification compliance, and quality; help drive timely resolution of deficiencies. 
• Maintain current drawing sets, revision logs, and document-control records. 
• Track quantities and production; prepare daily and weekly reports including sketches, calculations, and weather records. 
• Coordinate equipment and material needs, support invoice review, prepare time-and-material documentation, and obtain customer approval when required. 
• Support Project Manager on project setup, budgeting, billing, cost projections, and change-order documentation. 
• Support preparation and facilitation of project and quality meetings; lead meetings in the Project Manager's absence when assigned. 
• Coordinate with the Project Manager to ensure project closeout documents, as-built records, test reports, quality records, and other required deliverables are complete and submitted. 
• Exercise delegated stop-work authority when a condition presents a significant quality concern, and promptly notify project leadership. 
• Perform additional assignments as directed by the Division Manager or project leadership. 

• Required working experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or equivalent CAD/modeling software for reviewing, revising, and producing construction drawings and field sketches.
• Knowledge of heavy civil construction methods, earthwork, grading, soil and field testing, inspection practices, and QA/QC principles. 
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, technical reports, testing requirements, and applicable codes. 
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project, with the ability to learn project-specific systems and software. 
• Experience with job costing, scheduling, quantity tracking, estimating, and contract changes preferred. 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent the Company professionally in customer-facing interactions and communicate effectively with regulatory agencies, third-party testing firms, vendors, subcontractors, and all organizational levels. 
• Ability to organize multiple information streams, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and resolve problems in a fast-paced field environment. 
• Ability to work independently at project sites while maintaining alignment with project leadership and Company procedures. 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field required. 
• Minimum of one year of project engineering, field engineering, quality, or heavy civil construction experience preferred. A qualifying co-op or internship program may satisfy the experience requirement. 
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Must have and maintain a valid state-issued driver's license with a driving record that meets Company risk-management guidelines.

*This is primarily a field-based position. The standard schedule is typically 50 or more hours per week. Project needs may require early mornings, extended shifts, evenings, and work on Saturdays and/or Sundays. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Regularly works outdoors and around active heavy civil construction operations, heavy equipment, tools, trucks, uneven terrain, and changing site conditions. 
• May be exposed to extreme heat or cold, rain, dust, dirt, mud, chemicals, refuse, moderate to high noise levels, and other risks associated with active jobsites. 
• Must comply with all Company and site-specific safety, quality, environmental, and personal protective equipment requirements. 
• Frequently stands and walks at project sites for extended periods and may sit or drive between work areas. 
• Occasionally bends, stoops, reaches, climbs, and uses hands for pushing, pulling, handling, and equipment or sample manipulation. 
• Occasionally lifts and carries materials, equipment, or samples weighing up to 50 pounds. 
• Must be able to safely navigate uneven ground and access active work areas while wearing required personal protective equipment.
