Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Estimating Manager reports to the Director of Estimating and is responsible for all bids being issued from their office focusing in the Mining Industry.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Estimating Responsibilities

  • Helps set the estimating strategy and tactics to enhance Casey's ability to win work while maintaining an acceptable level of risk and anticipating customer needs and proposing solutions.
  • Perform detailed estimates in accordance with the scope of work, performing quantity take-offs, determining manpower, equipment requirements, obtaining material quotes and firm subcontractor quotes in accordance with policies, procedures, and authority delegations. Prepare estimates with limited information by leveraging experience to fill technical gaps in information.
  • Schedule and facilitate review meetings with operations sponsor, and senior management.
  • Review and comprehend technical and contractual documents such as Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Requests for Quotes (RFQs).
  • Read Drawings: Able to read and translate engineered drawings for industrial projects, including but not limited to, Mechanical equipment erection detail drawings, P&ID’s, process flow diagrams, general arrangement. Candidate must also be able to navigate a 3D model.
  • Prepare material Takeoffs: Organize, format, and maintain material takeoffs from all types of drawings listed above. Obtain material and subcontract pricing from several vendors to ensure competitive pricing that adheres to project schedule constraints.
  • Build Estimate: Sort, organize, and enter all data into InEight Estimate Software including labor rates, factors, material, and subcontract pricing.
  • Proposal Preparation: Organize, word process, format, edit, and support final production of proposals for bid and negotiated industrial construction projects in conjunction with other Casey estimating efforts.

Planning:

  • Work with the Director of Estimating on the following:
  • Assist in formulating the company's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives.
  • Participate in the implementation of strategic business plans.
  • Assist in the creation and actively participate in Leadership Training.
  • Manage capital requests and group’s budget.
  • Develop performance measures that support the company's strategic direction.

 

Operations:

  • Work with the Director of Estimating on the following:
  • Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the group and your supervisor.
  • Oversee the operations of the group.
  • Manage any third parties to which functions have been outsourced.
  • Implement operational best practices: controls, systems, etc.
  • Provide daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual reporting as deemed by your supervisor.
  • Supervise and manage estimating processes.
  • Supervise team of estimators and schedulers to develop competitive direct and indirect cost estimates, provide input to financial models, etc.
  • Interface with Proposal Managers as needed to provide input to proposal development.
  • Supervise quantity take-offs and scope reviews with Subcontractors.
  • Comply with standard Phase Code Structure on bids to ensure seamless transfer after award.
  • Maintain historical database of actual costs from completed jobs.
  • Ensure estimate instructions are clear so Subcontractors are using same basis in compiling their estimate.
  • Lead effort to develop most cost-effective construction means & methods, traffic control or logistics plans, and project schedule.
  • Lead estimate reviews with management to ensure that all estimate data required is provided to Proposal Manager for inclusion in Management Review packages.
  • Supervise estimate close-out, subcontractor and material comparisons, final cut/add sheet, completion of all pricing forms, revenue curves, etc. as required for proposal.
  • Work with estimating team to improve estimating practices, estimate set-up, etc. and develop new estimating leaders.
  • Assist in scheduling resources, developing potential partners, design team members, etc.
  • Coordinate with Business Development and Operations on upcoming opportunities.
  • Track and review unsuccessful bids for learning opportunities.
  • Aid in development and maintaining of InEight estimating software and additional take-off tools utilized to complete estimates.

 

Risk Management:

  • Understand and mitigate your groups risk profile.
  • Monitor all open legal issues involving the group, and legal issues affecting the industry.
  • Construct and monitor reliable control systems.
  • Report risk issues to the Dir of Estimating as needed.
  • Assist in risk and contingency analysis.
  • Manage, lead direct reports, and mentor.

 

Supervisory:

  • Supervises the Estimating Resources within their respective office
  • Provides assistance to other Estimating Managers upon request for coverage, assurance or other purposes

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors Degree or a equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years estimating experience required with supervisory experience.
  • Field experience on industrial construction projects.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.
  • When on-site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
  • Set a personal example of safe behavior.
  • Proficient in Salesforce, Viewpoint and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret blueprints, professional journals, technical procedures, contracts, or governmental regulations.
  • Write reports, business correspondence and document project activities.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from project managers, superintendents, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, including symbols, and takeoff materials.
  • Must be a self-starter with ability to manage multiple priorities and work with diverse employee base.
  • Strength in communication, organization, and leadership.
  • Competent in Microsoft Suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Experience with Blue-Beam, Navisworks, Egnyte, P6 and Microsoft Project.
  • Experience with InEight Estimate (Hard Dollar) a plus.
  • Technical writing ability.
  • Effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.
  • Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Other may duties may be assigned

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position requires prolonged sitting at a desk and working at a computer. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.

 

HOURS: This position is a standard full-time position, with general business 40-hour operating schedule, Monday-Friday.

 

TRAVEL: Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time.
